Mamata Banerjee takes out candle march demanding justice for Baruipur victim
Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee’s house in Ballygunge, Kolkata, on Monday, July 6, during his visit for the 125th birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Shah was accompanied by West Bengal BJP leaders including Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, State President Samik Bhattacharya, Locket Chatterjee, and Nishith Pramanik. The meeting lasted approximately 15 minutes.
According to BJP leaders, including Locket Chatterjee, the visit was a purely courtesy call. Discussions reportedly centred on movies, books, and general topics, with no political discussions or specific talks about the Tollywood industry. Prosenjit had earlier invited Shah to his house after receiving the Padma Shri award earlier this year. A similar courtesy visit was made earlier by Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar following the award announcement.
The visit has sparked political speculation in West Bengal, especially as it was not listed in Shah’s official schedule. Shah’s day included laying the foundation stone of a 125-foot statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee at Eco Park and paying tributes at his ancestral home in Bhavanipur before proceeding to the actor’s residence. Prosenjit has previously attended BJP events, including an oath-taking ceremony.
