Amit Shah to chair all-party meeting on restoring peace in Manipur

In an effort to tackle the escalating violence in Manipur and restore peace in the state, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lead an all-party meeting in New Delhi.

Scheduled for Saturday, the meeting aims to bring together political leaders and strategize ways to contain the ongoing unrest.

In parallel, the Manipur state government has extended the ban on internet services, including data services, for an additional five days until June 25. This decision is aimed at preventing further disruptions to peace caused by incidents of arson since May 3.

The violence in Manipur was triggered during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) on May 3. The rally sought to protest the demand for including Meiteis in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list. The resulting clashes and subsequent unrest have created a precarious situation in the state, necessitating urgent attention and action.

Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, expressed deep concern over the devastating violence in Manipur and called for peace and harmony in the state. However, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the timing of the all-party meeting, pointing out its coincidence with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the United States.

Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter, highlighting Manipur's turmoil over the past 50 days and criticizing the Prime Minister's silence on the matter. Congress leader KC Venugopal echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the absence of any response from PM Modi despite a delegation from Manipur being in the capital for ten days without securing a meeting with him.
