Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit West Bengal on June 1 to hold a series of crucial political and administrative meetings in Kolkata. His visit is seen as a strategic move in the run-up to the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, as the BJP seeks to strengthen its foothold in the state.
During his visit, Shah will meet with the core committee leaders of the BJP Bengal in a high-level session in Kolkata. This meeting will focus on the party’s electoral strategy, assessment of district-level leadership, and planning of upcoming campaign structures. Shah’s presence is expected to energize the cadre and push for tighter organizational discipline ahead of the polls.
He is also scheduled to meet with sitting MLAs from the party to take stock of constituency-level issues and local political dynamics. This interaction is considered critical as the BJP aims to identify strong candidates and refine its grassroots engagement ahead of the assembly elections.
Apart from political meetings, the Home Minister will participate in government programs during his stay in the state, reinforcing the Centre’s commitment to ongoing development initiatives in Bengal.
Back in March, the BJP Bengal core committee met to deliberate on internal appointments and future strategy. The meeting, attended by BJP Bengal co-observer Amit Malviya, central leader Sunil Bansal, Purulia MP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, and former MP Locket Chatterjee, discussed district president selections and the state leadership structure.
