Angry mob ransacks Baruipur, vandalizes police vehicles in protest of minor's rape-murder case

Massive violence and chaos erupted in Baruipur on Sunday morning after the body of an 11-year-old missing girl was recovered from a local pond. The minor had been missing since Saturday afternoon after reportedly being taken away by a group of four to five youths. Local residents alleged that she was brutally raped and strangled to death. In the volatile atmosphere that followed the discovery, an enraged mob intercepted one of the key suspects, identified as 26-year-old Indrajit Tanti, and subjected him to a severe lynching. Although he was eventually rescued and rushed to a local hospital, medical professionals declared him dead upon arrival.

The situation deteriorated rapidly as local citizens placed the minor's body on Kulpi Road to launch a massive blockade, demanding immediate capital punishment for all perpetrators. Aggrieved protesters heavily blamed administrative negligence for the tragedy, asserting that a prompt, proactive response from law enforcement on Saturday could have saved the child's life. When police personnel attempted to clear the blockade to recover the body for official medical procedures, the agitated crowd clashed with the forces, unleashing a targeted attack on the personnel and severely vandalizing official police vehicles.

In a further escalation of the civil unrest, the protesters targeted the local Suryapur police camp, causing widespread panic across the region. According to preliminary police disclosures, the minor girl is suspected to have been strangled to death, and one other suspect has already been formally arrested and transferred to the Baruipur police station. While a massive search operation has been launched to track down the remaining fugitives who are still at large, the dual tragedies of the minor's murder and the subsequent mob lynching of a suspect have left the entire district under intense security surveillance.
