A team of the Border Security Force seized approximately ₹15 lakh in cash during a joint checking operation in Kolkata on April 8. The recovery was made around 1:50 pm at Hide Road under West Port Police Station limits (Assembly Constituency 158), where BSF personnel, along with local police and a magistrate, were conducting routine surveillance as part of election-related security measures.
According to officials, the cash was recovered from a Honda City car bearing registration number WB 08 J 3261. The operation was carried out by an FST team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Sabu S, accompanied by two other personnel. The team acted with alertness during the checking process, leading to the detection of a large sum of money concealed in the vehicle.
The vehicle was being driven by MD Mahatab, a resident of Narkel Danga Main Road in Kolkata. Following the seizure, the cash was taken to West Port Police Station, where counting and further verification are underway. Authorities have initiated standard procedures to determine the source and purpose of the cash, as investigations continue under the supervision of police representatives and the magistrate present during the operation.
