At least eight people have died after consuming poisonous liquor in Bihar's Siwan and Chapra districts on Wednesday, October 16. Among the deceased, Arvind Singh (40) and Ramendra Singh (30) from Kaudiya Vaishya Tola, along with Santosh Mahato (35), Munna (32), Brij Mohan Singh, and Dinesh Ram from Maghar Pokhra, have been confirmed. Additionally, two people in Chapra have also succumbed to toxic alcohol consumption.
The health of three others has worsened, with one individual in critical condition and referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), while two remain under treatment at Sadar Hospital. The incidents occurred in the Kaudiyan Panchayat Vaish Toli and surrounding villages in the Bhagwanpur police station area, raising alarm among district authorities.
Maharajganj SDM Anil Kumar reported that preliminary investigations indicate the deaths resulted from alcohol consumption, and the death toll may rise as further verification is conducted. In a separate incident, Mohan Sah, son of Ganga Sah from Maghar village, died while being transported to PMCH Patna.
Authorities are actively investigating the situation and questioning suspects to uncover more details about the source of the poisonous liquor. The tragic incidents also took place in Ibrahimpur village under the Mashrakh police station area, which borders Siwan's Bhagwanpur Haat police station and the Saran district.
The community is urged to remain vigilant regarding alcohol consumption, especially given the recent surge in incidents related to toxic liquor.
