Terror plot foiled as 8 Jaish terrorists nabbed by Gujarat ATS
Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Aparupa Poddar presented herself before investigators at the Srirampur Police Station on Friday morning following consecutive law enforcement summonses. The former lawmaker arrived at the municipal station house at approximately eleven fifty in the morning, accompanied by a senior member of her legal counsel. Notably, Poddar chose to attend the station house wearing formal lawyer's attire, signaling a defensive stance against the state police department's ongoing inquiry into an altercation that occurred during her husband's recent high-profile detention.
The criminal inquiry against Poddar centers around a suo motu case registered by local law enforcement officers on charges of assaulting a public servant and obstructing an active investigation. The legal dispute erupted on Tuesday afternoon when field agents from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrived at her residential complex in Rishra to apprehend her husband, local civic councilor Shakir Ali, in connection with an underlying communal violence case. As security forces attempted to escort Ali to a waiting transport vehicle, an agitated crowd of neighborhood supporters surrounded the police enclosure, triggering localized chaos and a confrontation between community members and the police escort.
Eyewitness accounts and video footage documented during the arrest process revealed that Poddar lost her temper as central agents led her husband out of the residence. She reportedly engaged in an aggressive verbal dispute with state police officers who had established a protective perimeter around the transport vehicle. During the ensuing scuffle, the former Arambagh parliamentarian allegedly pushed and physically manhandled several female police constables who were attempting to restrict her path to the vehicle. While Poddar skipped her initial Wednesday summons to accompany her husband to the Bankshal Court, she formally complied with the second notice on Friday after a brief extension request.
