Arjun Singh will contest as an independent candidate from Barrackpore!

He is currently the sitting MP from here and it was expected that Trinamool Congress would give him the ticket, but when Mamata Banerjee announced the candidates, Arjun Singh's name was not there. The special thing is that during the announcement of the candidates, he was on the stage with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Brigade Parade Ground. As soon as he came to know that he had not got the ticket, his displeasure was visible as he left the stage immediately after the announcement of the candidates. Mamata Banerjee said that those who have not got tickets in the Lok Sabha will be included in the Assembly.

However, now sources have said that Arjun Singh has decided to distance himself from Trinamool Congress also. Now even if he joins the Bharatiya Janata Party, there are chances that he will not get the ticket. Trinamool has given a ticket to Partha Bhowmik from his parliamentary constituency. Now sources have said that he is preparing to contest as an independent candidate. A leader close to Arjun Singh said that Barrackpore parliamentary constituency is the stronghold of Hindi languages and here the decision of victory or defeat is based on the votes of the workers of the jute mill area. Arjun Singh has good influence among them and irrespective of the party he belongs to, his relations with these workers have always been good.
