An arrest warrant has been issued against Sumit Roy, personal assistant and close aide of Abhishek Banerjee, in connection with alleged fraud and land scam cases. The warrant was obtained after investigators were unable to trace Roy despite multiple search operations. A complaint alleging financial irregularities and land-related fraud had earlier been registered against him at Salboni Police Station, prompting an investigation into the matter.
According to investigators, Sumit Roy remains untraceable and has allegedly not cooperated with the ongoing inquiry. Police recently carried out searches at multiple locations while attempting to locate him. Sources said his last known mobile tower location was traced to Abhishek Banerjee's residence in the Patuapara area of Kalighat. Acting on that information, officers conducted a search operation at the residence during the early hours of the morning but did not find Roy there.
Sumit Roy's name had previously surfaced in the 2022 coal smuggling investigation, in which he was listed as a witness and was summoned on multiple occasions by the Enforcement Directorate. Police have now intensified efforts to locate him following the issuance of the arrest warrant. The development comes at a time when several investigations involving individuals associated with Abhishek Banerjee are ongoing, bringing additional attention to the case.
