Molestation allegations mar 5th phase polling in WB, locals thrashed central force jawan in Hoogly
Amidst the nomination process in South Kolkata, tensions escalated between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as clashes erupted near the Kalighat Bridge. Allegations surfaced that Trinamool's campaign songs started playing on the microphone as the CPM procession passed, leading to agitation among CPM workers and supporters.
The situation intensified upon reaching Gopalnagar, where confrontations between the two groups ensued, accompanied by chants of 'chor-chor' from the CPM procession and accusations of wire-cutting by Trinamool. Police presence was reportedly inadequate, and the clash persisted until Trinamool workers were eventually dispersed and CPM candidates sought refuge in the Treasury building, initiating protests led by Mohammad Salim.
