Vidyasagar Setu to remain fully closed for 16 hours on June 7 for repair work
Delhi University professor Debasmita Pal was found dead inside her apartment in Vasundhara Enclave in East Delhi after police entered the flat following a request from her family. The 42-year-old academic, who lived alone in the apartment, was found lying in a pool of blood. Police have launched an investigation into the case and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
The incident came to light after Debasmita’s sister, Debarati, repeatedly tried to contact her on Thursday morning but received no response. Concerned about her wellbeing, she informed the police and later went to the apartment at around 2:30 pm. The flat was locked from the outside, and after entry was gained, Debasmita’s body was discovered inside the residence.
According to police, Debasmita’s husband lives in Bengaluru, while her parents reside in the Delhi area. Investigators stated that she had been living alone in the apartment. Officers reached the scene after being alerted and recovered the body for further examination.
Preliminary findings indicate that the victim sustained injuries consistent with being struck on the head with a heavy object. Investigators also found indications of injuries caused by a sharp weapon. Police are examining forensic evidence and other material recovered from the apartment as part of the investigation.
Authorities said robbery does not appear to be the motive at this stage, as no valuables were reported missing from the flat. Police are also examining her personal circumstances, including reports that divorce proceedings involving her husband were underway. Debasmita earned a doctorate from Jamia Millia Islamia approximately ten years ago and had been associated with teaching for the past decade.
