Biswa Bangla's "ব" gone from bureaucrats' vehicles; Ashoka Chakra returns on car flags

Following the recent change of government in West Bengal, Nabanna has officially issued a notification to replace the "Biswa Bangla" logo flag from the official vehicles of top Indian Administrative Service (IAS) bureaucrats. The previous flag, which featured the distinctive Bengali letter "B" and was personally designed by former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is being dismantled from vehicle dashboards across the state. In its place, official vehicles will now sport a deep blue flag featuring the emblem of the Ashoka Chakra.

According to the new administrative guidelines issued by Nabanna, the shape and design of the newly introduced dark blue flags will vary strictly based on the bureaucratic rank of the officer. Chief Secretaries, Additional Chief Secretaries, and Principal Secretaries will use rectangular flags, while Super Time Scale officers will feature a fishtail design. Furthermore, commissioners, divisional commissioners, and district magistrates will utilize triangular and designated rectangular variants to clarify their official identity during national and international high-level meetings.

The notification clearly specifies that the new flags must be mounted either on a stand in the middle of the vehicle's bonnet or on the front grille, and can only be used when officials are performing their formal government duties. Nabanna emphasized that displaying the official flag will yield no special exemptions or privileges if an official violates traffic laws. A comprehensive centralized database mapping each issued flag to its specific officer and vehicle will be maintained and shared with the National Highways Authority of India, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, and the Kolkata Police.
