CPI(M) leader beaten on road in Kharagpur for protesting wall demolition, shirt torn
As per reports, the FIR filed in the Kasba law college rape case has not mentioned the full names of the accused, despite all three individuals being arrested. The accused have been identified as Manojeet Mishra, Jaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay. All three are allegedly associated with the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), the student wing of the ruling party.
The FIR, however, refers to the accused only by the initials “M”, “J”, and “P”. This has led to questions about why the names were not written in full, especially when the accused had already been arrested and their identities were known. Sources indicate that the victim had named the individuals clearly during the complaint process.
Senior advocate of Calcutta High Court, Firdaus Samim, stated, “If the victim knew the accused and had named them, then writing only initials in the FIR is a serious mistake. Identification of the accused in the early stage was not difficult, and this omission reflects a serious lapse.”
Political reactions have followed the development. CPI(M) leader Shatarup Ghosh alleged that not writing the full names was a deliberate move and said that all names and relevant case details should have been documented properly. BJP councillor Sajal Ghosh also questioned the use of initials in place of names, claiming it conceals the affiliation of the accused.
A team from the National Commission for Women, led by member Archana Majumdar, visited the college premises and interacted with concerned authorities. The team raised questions regarding the police’s procedural approach in the case. The incident comes shortly after similar concerns were raised in the RG Kar Hospital case, where procedural lapses were also alleged.
