A massive blast occurred in a car near Gate No. 1 of Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station, around 6:52 pm on Monday, when the slow-moving vehicle stopped at a red light. The explosion killed at least nine people, with multiple others critically injured and admitted to LNJP Hospital.
In response, CISF installations, Delhi Metro, government buildings, and IGI Airport are on high alert, and Mumbai Police have also stepped up security measures. Delhi Crime Branch and Special Branch teams arrived at the spot, and NSG and NIA teams, along with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), have begun a detailed probe.
The blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car, which had three occupants, officials said. The explosion happened at the rear of the vehicle, and no craters were found at the site. Authorities confirmed that none of the injured or deceased had nails or wires embedded, and the victims did not show signs of burns or charring.
