Bengal Police busts Jamtara cyber scam, 46 arrested in statewide crackdown
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday alleged that Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena approved changes in the land use of Shakur Basti during a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) meeting. She claimed official documents confirmed this approval, contradicting Saxena’s earlier denial of involvement. Atishi linked the changes to plans for slum demolitions in the area.
“DDA meeting was held, and land use was changed,” Atishi said. She further criticized the BJP for what she alleged to be pre-election promises to slum residents, followed by post-election actions that displace them through redevelopment projects. The alleged land use change has drawn significant attention as it impacts the residents of Shakur Basti, an area home to numerous slum clusters.
On Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited Shakur Basti, addressing residents of the slum cluster. He alleged that the BJP plans to demolish slums and transfer the land to private builders. Kejriwal demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah withdraw all court cases related to slum demolitions over the last decade and return land and homes to displaced residents. He added that if these demands were met, AAP would not contest upcoming elections.
Atishi, the AAP candidate for the Kalkaji Assembly constituency, visited the Kalkaji temple on Monday to offer prayers before filing her nomination papers. She expressed gratitude to the people of Kalkaji for their continued support and emphasized the community’s role in her campaign. Atishi said, “The people of Kalkaji are contesting it.”
The allegations and demands come as both AAP and BJP increase their outreach efforts among slum residents, a significant voter base in Delhi. The Shakur Basti issue has underscored concerns around urban planning, land use changes, and the impact of redevelopment projects on vulnerable communities.
