An autorickshaw driver was hacked in the Tamil Nadu capital after questioning a gang about cutting a cake on the road as part of a birthday celebration.
According to the police, Ajay from the Ambattur area of Chennai celebrated his birthday by cutting a cake in the middle of the road with his friends. At that time, driver Kamesh, who was passing by in his auto rickshaw, scolded them for obstructing the traffic. This led to an altercation between the car driver and a group of youths identified as Ajay's friends.
Ajay and his friend assaulted the car driver and brutally hacked him with a knife and fled from the spot after an argument. Meanwhile, the rickshaw driver's brother Satheesh was also attacked by the gang and was hospitalized with serious injuries.
The police, who reached the spot later, found Kamesh's body and sent it to Stanley Government Hospital for post-mortem.
