Autorickshaw drivers in Kolkata have been hit by another fuel price hike as the rate of Auto LPG increased sharply at the start of April. The price has risen by ₹12.28 per litre overnight, taking the new rate to around ₹82.96 per litre and intensifying pressure on drivers already struggling with rising fuel costs.
This latest revision marks the fourth increase in Auto LPG prices within a short span. The price had already been raised three times in March, and the latest hike has further added to the financial burden on autorickshaw operators across the city. The continuous rise in fuel prices is directly affecting the earnings of drivers, many of whom rely on daily income from operating their vehicles. Several drivers have expressed concerns that repeated hikes may make it increasingly difficult to maintain regular services without raising fares.
The situation is unfolding amid a broader fuel supply strain that has already impacted the transport sector in Kolkata, where a large portion of the autorickshaw fleet depends on Auto LPG for daily operations.
