A case has been registered after the shrine of renowned Sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah was vandalised in Mussoorie, triggering concerns over communal harmony in the hill town. The incident took place late Saturday night at the shrine located within the premises of Wynberg Allen School in the Bala Hisar area.
According to the FIR, three individuals — Hariom, Shivayun and Shraddha — along with 25 to 30 unidentified persons allegedly entered the shrine and demolished parts of the structure using iron rods and hammers. Religious books kept at the site were also damaged during the act.
Mussoorie police registered the case under Sections 196(1)(b) and 298 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which relate to acts prejudicial to communal harmony and defiling a place of worship. Officials confirmed that no arrests have been made so far, as the invoked sections do not mandate immediate arrest.
Senior police officers said the complaint was filed following representations by members of the local Muslim community. Police personnel have since been deployed at the site to prevent further disturbances and to maintain law and order in the area.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and additional suspects will be identified using video footage. Police maintained that strict legal action will be taken against all those found involved as the probe progresses.
