Balurghat Police seize ₹50,000 worth of banned firecrackers during Kali Puja operation

On Kali Puja day, the Balurghat police executed a targeted operation that resulted in the seizure of four sacks of banned firecrackers in the vicinity of Tohbazar Triti Cabin. The total market value of the confiscated firecrackers is estimated at ₹50,000. The items recovered during the operation included various hazardous products such as chocolate bombs, chili crackers, and sky bombs, all of which have been specifically prohibited due to their potential danger to public safety and the environment.

The ongoing sale of banned firecrackers continues to be a concern, even with the establishment of an eco-friendly firecracker market at Balurghat High School field. Authorities noted that illegal sales were taking place secretly in residential areas, undermining efforts to promote safer alternatives for festive celebrations. The police launched this operation following intelligence reports indicating the illicit trade of dangerous firecrackers during the busy festive period.

Balurghat police have intensified their efforts to combat the distribution and use of unsafe firecrackers, particularly during major festivals when the demand typically rises. The enforcement of the firecracker ban is part of a larger public health initiative aimed at minimizing air pollution and reducing the risk of fire-related incidents that can arise from the use of such products. Local regulations prohibit the sale and use of specific types of firecrackers, which have been linked to injuries and accidents in previous years.

Despite the success of this operation, police have not made any arrests related to the confiscated items. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities actively working to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the illegal sale of firecrackers. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities regarding firecracker sales to the police, as community involvement is crucial in ensuring compliance with safety regulations and protecting public health during festive celebrations.
