Bandra Police files 1,000-page chargesheet against Shariful Islam in Saif Ali Khan stabbing case

In a major development in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, the Bandra Police on Tuesday submitted a 1,000-page chargesheet in the Bandra court against the arrested accused, Shariful Islam, for his alleged involvement in the January 16 attack. The chargesheet reportedly presents critical forensic and fingerprint evidence that directly ties the accused to the weapon and the crime scene.

The forensic report is said to be a turning point in the investigation. According to Mumbai Police, the broken knife pieces found at the scene, from the actor’s injuries, and with the accused all match perfectly, proving they are parts of the same weapon. “This chargesheet includes several pieces of evidence found by the police against the arrested accused, Shariful Islam,” a senior officer said. “The forensic lab confirmed the consistency of the weapon fragments.”

Along with forensic findings, a fingerprint analysis of the accused's left hand has been included in the chargesheet. These prints were recovered from inside the residence and helped solidify the prosecution’s case against Islam, who was earlier identified as Shehzad during initial investigation.

The violent incident took place on January 16, when Shariful Islam allegedly broke into Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra residence with an intention to rob. During the confrontation, Saif was stabbed and sustained serious injuries to his thoracic spine, requiring immediate hospitalization. He was treated at Lilavati Hospital and discharged five days later on January 21.

Investigators revealed that the accused had illegally entered India from Bangladesh and initially stayed at multiple temporary shelters in Kolkata, before making his way to Mumbai. Authorities are now probing further into his background and any possible network of accomplices that might have helped him.

Police officials believe the extensive chargesheet and scientific evidence now provide a strong foundation for conviction. The case continues to draw public attention, especially due to the involvement of a high-profile celebrity and the sheer audacity of the crime.
