Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing a rally at Dharamtala on Wednesday declared that the Narendra Modi government is determined to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), emphasizing that no one can stop it. Shah took aim at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging her inability to halt infiltration in the state.
Shah asserted that voter and Aadhaar cards are being openly and illegally distributed to infiltrators in West Bengal, raising concerns about the impact of such activities on the state's development.
“In the state in which so much infiltration occurs, will development take place there?” Shah asked. “That is why Mamata Banerjee is opposing CAA... But I would say that CAA is the law of the country, and no one can stop it. We will implement it…”
He accused Banerjee's government, along with the communists, of having "ruined" the state of Bengal, pointing to the high figures of election violence in the region.
“Figures as regards election violence stands the highest in Bengal on national levels,” he said.
In a forward-looking statement, Shah expressed confidence in the BJP forming the government in Bengal with a two-thirds majority in the state Assembly elections in 2026.
