The Border Security Force (BSF) arrested Mohammad Salim Ansari, a Bangladeshi citizen, on Thursday evening near the Arjun border outpost in the Bagdokora-Phulkadabari area of Mekhliganj. Ansari was detained during a routine patrol by the BSF’s 6th Battalion after he was seen roaming suspiciously close to the international border. He was brought to the border outpost for questioning, where it was confirmed that he had entered India illegally and was residing in Murshidabad district.
Ansari’s residence is located in Beldanga, Murshidabad, where he lives with his mother. Further investigation revealed that his native place falls under the Teknaf police station jurisdiction in Cox’s Bazar district, Bangladesh. Ansari disclosed that he worked at a tailor’s shop and received his education at a local madrasa. He was appointed as the Imam of the Makrampur Dakshinpara Mosque and was also involved in teaching at the madrasa.
It was also discovered that Ansari was receiving the Bengal government’s Imam allowance during his stay in India. The BSF has taken custody of Ansari and is conducting further verification regarding his identity and activities. The arrest comes amid ongoing efforts by border security agencies to monitor and prevent illegal cross-border movements.
