Severe waterlogging in Bankra’s Panchayat Number 1 is affecting over 1,000 students of Mubarak Hussain Girls High School. The school, located in a low-lying area, experiences annual flooding even before the monsoon begins. This year, the school campus and surrounding localities are already submerged in knee-deep water, making it difficult for students and teachers to reach the premises.
Students are compelled to walk through stagnant water daily, as the area lacks a proper drainage system. Locals stated that the roads leading to the school resemble rivers during this season. Several girls are reportedly falling sick after repeated exposure to rainwater and dirty water accumulated in front of the school and nearby areas.
When asked about the situation, school headmistress Jhuma Ghosh declined to comment on the administration’s role. However, residents of the area expressed anger over the issue and claimed that despite recurring problems, no permanent solution has been provided. They said the drainage crisis remains unaddressed every year, causing serious inconvenience to students and teachers.
