Cut-outs of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were vandalized and reportedly set on fire in Gobrapur village in the state's Bagda constituency by unidentified miscreants on Monday. The incident took place a day before the scheduled Trinamool Congress (TMC) public meeting in the village.
The miscreants also set ablaze cut-outs of TMC’s national general secretary and Mamata's nephew Abhishek Banerjee. In the wake of this incident, the TMC has blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing their cadres of vandalism. However, the BJP has denied all allegations.
Police have registered a case against unknown miscreants and began the investigation. The incident precedes the West Bengal panchayat elections that are likely to be held in March 2023. In view of the polls, TMC has asked all its leaders to take an extensive on-ground tour.
