Tension erupted in the Talikhola area of Barasat, North 24 Parganas, after a Facebook post in support of Pakistan gained attention from local residents. The post led to widespread unrest, prompting a large police presence, including the officer-in-charge of Barasat Police Station and the SDPO of Barasat. The police arrived to arrest the individual responsible for the post.
As the police attempted to make the arrest, some locals started throwing bricks and stones at the officers. Additionally, there were reports of bomb explosions in the area. One police officer sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Barasat Medical College Hospital. Several other officers were also injured during the clashes.
To restore order, the police used a lathi charge and deployed tear gas. Several individuals were arrested by the Barasat Police Station. The SDPO of Barasat provided updates on the situation in the early hours of Wednesday, assuring that the authorities were working to control the unrest and maintain peace in the area.
