BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
Residents of Ward No. 4 in Barasat Municipality, North 24 Parganas, protested on Tuesday by blocking the Barasat-Barrackpore Road. The protest was held to demand a permanent solution to the ongoing waterlogging problem in the area. Protesters stated they would keep the road blocked until effective water drainage arrangements are made. Police personnel from Barasat Police Station were present at the site to maintain order.
Local municipal councilor Shilpi Das visited the protest site and listened to the grievances of the residents. The residents raised concerns over repeated complaints regarding drain cleaning and water drainage, questioning why these issues remain unresolved. They demanded that immediate action be taken to clear the drains and set up a lasting water management system.
The residents also pointed out that multiple illegal constructions in the area have worsened the waterlogging problem. The municipality has issued notices to some of these unauthorized structures, but no concrete action has been reported yet. The ongoing lack of enforcement and infrastructure improvements continues to affect the locality's drainage and causes repeated water stagnation.
