A 22-year-old man, Surya Das, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a ninth-grade minor girl multiple times by threatening to throw acid on her and harm her family. The incident took place in the Baruipur police station area, where the accused reportedly harassed the victim in public places before coercing her into a physical relationship. The victim’s family lodged a complaint at Baruipur police station on Thursday night, following which the police launched an investigation and arrested the accused. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act and sections of the IT Act.
According to the complaint, the accused had been following and intimidating the minor for several months, repeatedly warning her that if she refused his advances, he would kill her parents and attack her with acid. Over time, he forcibly established a physical relationship with her and secretly recorded videos and photos of their encounters. The accused allegedly used these visuals to blackmail her into further exploitation, warning that he would release them online if she resisted. Despite these threats, the images were eventually circulated, reaching people in the victim’s locality and her family.
Upon discovering the photos, the victim’s parents confronted her, after which she disclosed the details of the abuse. The family immediately approached the police, leading to the registration of the case. Investigators tracked the accused and arrested him within hours. Officials have confirmed that digital evidence, including the circulated images, is being examined. The police are also probing whether the content was shared with others or uploaded to any online platforms. Further action will be taken based on the findings.
The accused was taken into custody and will be presented before the Baruipur Sub-Divisional Court today. Legal proceedings have begun under stringent sections of the POCSO Act and IT Act, which deal with crimes against minors and digital exploitation. Authorities are also investigating whether the accused had any prior history of similar offenses. Meanwhile, the victim has been provided necessary support, and her statement is being recorded as part of the legal process.
