Reconstruction of crime scene in Kasba as probe intensifies in Kolkata college student rape case
A tense situation unfolded in Baruipur as BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s rally clashed with a Trinamool Congress (TMC) counter-march within a 100-meter radius. Both rallies, taking place simultaneously, saw intense slogan wars, with TMC supporters chanting "Jai Bangla" and BJP workers responding with "Jai Shri Ram." Trinamool workers waved black flags at Adhikari’s convoy, shouting "Chor Chor" slogans, while BJP accused the ruling party of obstructing their rally.
According to BJP leaders, Adhikari’s car was allegedly struck multiple times with sticks during the rally. He claimed that “chili powder mixed in water” was thrown at BJP workers and stated, “If I hadn’t been inside the car, I would have been hit on the head with sticks.” BJP also alleged that police did not intervene despite the disruptions, leading to questions about law enforcement’s role in managing the two simultaneous processions.
The march, which started from Ras Maath and was headed toward the SP office, faced multiple blockades along the route. BJP accused the administration of allowing TMC to set up a counter-event just 100 meters away, leading to direct confrontations between the two groups. Police deployed barricades to control the situation as tensions escalated, but both parties continued their demonstrations.
Adhikari, who had earlier announced the rally in response to his suspension from the Assembly, claimed that the disruptions were intentional. He warned of further protests, declaring that BJP workers would gherao the Baruipur SP office on March 27. He also stated that he would take legal action against the police, specifically naming Baruipur SP and West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar, for failing to prevent attacks on his rally.
The developments in Baruipur have added to the ongoing political tensions in the state. BJP has raised concerns over political violence, while TMC has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. Security measures in the area have been increased ahead of the BJP’s planned protest on March 27.
