Reconstruction of crime scene in Kasba as probe intensifies in Kolkata college student rape case
Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad has frozen the financial and administrative powers of SSLNT Women’s College principal Dr. Sharmila Rani with immediate effect for refusing to obey the transfer order of Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Sukhdeo Bhoi.
BBMKU registrar Dr. In this regard, Kaushal Kumar sent a letter to the Director Dr. late on Thursday evening. to Sharmila Rani advising her to refrain from any political or financial decisions until further notice.
The university sent a letter to the principal of SSLNT Women’s College after she refused to give direction and take up the new responsibility.
On July 6, the vice-chancellor changed the directors of the university's four colleges. Dr. Sharmila Rani has been transferred to BSK College Maithon. College Development Council (CCDC) coordinator Dr. Ashok Kumar Maji has been given additional charge as Principal of SSLNT Women’s College. Two others, Dr. Sarita Srivastava and Dr. Kavita Singh, were appointed principals of Degree College Bermo and PK Roy Memorial College Dhanbad. Both directors took charge.
But despite the V-C's notice, SSLNT Women's College Principal Dr. Sharmila Rani neither joined her new assignment at BSK College Maithon nor handed over the allegations to Dr. Ashok Kumar Maji. According to a university official, Dr. Sharmila Rani said she would forward the charges after receiving instructions from the governor's office.
The secretary did not receive a call to clarify whether the governor's office had sent any instructions regarding Dr. Sharmila Rani's transit stay. Sources said they claim to have received a verbal order from the governor's secretariat.
The university took her defiance seriously. “You have been transferred to BSK College Maithon. But in your letter to the university, you claimed that an officer from the 'governor's' office gave you a verbal stay order but did not name the officer. You have undermined the authority of the university by using the name of the Governor's Secretariat.
The transfer was made for the smooth functioning of the college in particular and the university in general. You must follow the Vice-Chancellor's orders. If you are aggrieved, you can comment on the appropriate forum. But you have chosen to put the office of the V-C in a bad light,” said Registrar Dr. Kaushal Kumar in his letter to the principal of SSLNT Women’s College.
