"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
Tension gripped Beldanga once again as local residents blocked National Highway 12 at Barua More under the Beldanga police station area in Murshidabad district. The protest was sparked by allegations that a migrant worker from the area was assaulted in Bihar, prompting locals to stage a road blockade.
During the agitation, protesters vandalised the railway level crossing gate near Beldanga, leading to a complete halt in both rail and road traffic. Railway signals were also damaged, severely disrupting train services in the area. Trinamool Congress suspended MLA Humayun Kabir was present at the protest site when the unrest unfolded.
The latest violence follows a similar flare-up on Friday after the death of a hawker in Jharkhand. On Saturday, journalists covering the protests were assaulted during the unrest, further escalating the situation. Authorities are closely monitoring the area as tension continues to prevail.
