Following the successful resolution of complex structural and traffic hurdles at the nearby Chingrighata crossing, the administrative focus of the Kolkata Metro project has swiftly shifted toward completing the pending infrastructure at Beliaghata station. For a long period, the construction of a vital foot overbridge (FOB) right outside the Beliaghata Metro station—geographically located near the Metropolitan area on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass—remained severely gridlocked.
With most residential pockets, commercial establishments, and star hotels situated on the opposite flank of the Bypass, the absence of an overhead bridge presented significant pedestrian safety hazards. However, the recent structural breakthrough at the Chingrighata metro section has paved the way for a streamlined administrative approach across the entire New Garia–Airport Orange Line corridor.
Leveraging this newfound inter-departmental synergy, municipal planning bodies and transit agencies have finalized the operational roadmap to immediately kickstart the suspended work on the Beliaghata footbridge. Engineers are reportedly setting up temporary road diversion signs to systematically install the pending steel frames over the arterial road without triggering major daytime gridlocks.
