Mamata awards 50 lakhs to female footballers of East Bengal team
The West Bengal BJP has temporarily expelled four local office-bearers from the party in the Behala West Assembly constituency. These officials have been accused of misbehaving with Anupam Bhattacharya, the organizational district president of the Kolkata-South Lok Sabha constituency, along with other leaders at a public event on Sunday.
According to letters issued by Pratap Banerjee, head of the BJP's West Bengal internal disciplinary committee, the four officials have been asked to present their written statements within seven days. Until then, they will remain temporarily expelled from the party. The expelled officials include Joy Ghosh, Rana Dwari, Sukumar Hazra, and Divyendu Samanta.
On Sunday, an event was held in the Behala West Assembly constituency where Anupam Bhattacharya was appointed as the new organizational district president of the Kolkata-South Lok Sabha constituency. During the event, some members of an opposing faction arrived and started targeting the newly appointed president and his supporters. The situation escalated into a clash between the two factions. When Anupam Bhattacharya attempted to calm the situation, he was surrounded by the opposition members, who threw black ink at him. The situation became so critical that the local police had to intervene to bring the situation under control.
Following this incident, the BJP's district leadership filed a police complaint. Upon receiving information about the incident, the state BJP leadership took immediate action and decided to temporarily expel the four accused officials. It is noteworthy that at the beginning of this month, the BJP announced the names of presidents for 25 out of 43 organizational districts in West Bengal, with 15 new faces among them. According to party insiders, the names of the remaining 18 district presidents will be announced soon, followed by the announcement of the party’s new state president.
Currently, West Bengal BJP state president and Lok Sabha MP Sukanta Majumdar is serving as a Minister of State in the central government. He has stated that if Bengal is to be saved from becoming Bangladesh, it is essential to remove Mamata Banerjee from power in 2026. He has urged BJP workers and Hindu voters to view this election as a battle to save Bengal.
