Bengal BJP may suffer if TMC turncoats not restrained: Dilip Ghosh to JP Nadda

Senior BJP leader from West Bengal, Dilip Ghosh, met party president Jagat Prakash Nadda in Delhi and raised objections regarding the conduct and growing influence of leaders who joined BJP from the Trinamool Congress. According to party sources, the meeting lasted around 40 minutes and focused on internal issues within the Bengal BJP. Ghosh is said to have expressed dissatisfaction over the behaviour of specific leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari and Arjun Singh.

During the meeting, Ghosh shared details about the political situation in West Bengal and stated that if certain individuals were not restrained, it could affect the party’s organisation in the state. He reportedly highlighted that the actions of some TMC turncoats were creating discomfort among the original party workers. After the meeting, Ghosh did not comment directly on the matter and only said, “We discussed many things.”

Tensions had earlier surfaced when Ghosh attended a Jagannath Temple inauguration event in Digha in April at the invitation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Following this, he was not invited to the welcome ceremony of newly appointed Bengal BJP president Shamik Bhattacharya. Although Bhattacharya later mediated a reconciliation, the internal distance between Ghosh and the party leadership remained visible.

Ghosh had announced his intention to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Durgapur and stated he would sit with party workers if denied space on the stage. However, on Thursday night, he withdrew, saying his presence could make the party uncomfortable. He said he would not attend the rally. Previously, Ghosh was not invited to a similar rally in Alipurduar, where he had watched the speech on television and posted related images.

On Friday, Ghosh flew to Delhi and visited Nadda’s residence. Initially, Nadda was not present, but Ghosh’s car returned later, and the meeting took place in the afternoon. Sources said Nadda advised Ghosh to refrain from unnecessary statements. The meeting came two days before the annual July 21 rally of the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata. Ghosh had earlier indicated that he might make a public appearance on the same day in a "surprising" manner.
