Bengal BJP MLAs burn Pakistan flag over Pahalgam terror attack; Suvendu seeks revenge for slain Hindu tourists

BJP legislators in West Bengal, led by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, staged a protest outside the state Assembly on Thursday in response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The legislators burned Pakistan flags as a mark of protest against the killing of two tourists from Bengal, Bitan Adhikari and Sameer Guha, in the attack that occurred on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters, Suvendu Adhikari alleged that Hindus were selectively targeted in the Pahalgam incident. "The widows of both Bitan Adhikari and Sameer Guha, the two killed tourists from West Bengal at Pahalgam on Wednesday, described how the Hindus were selectively killed there," he said. Urging caution among travelers, Adhikari added, "I will request them that from henceforth the Hindu Bengalis should make their tour plans after considering the demography of their destination."

Adhikari accused Pakistan of backing such attacks and called for a retaliatory response. "Be it the recent riot-hit Murshidabad or be it Kashmir, the only aim is to selectively target the Hindus," he stated. "As long as Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister, everything is possible. Like Gaza, Pakistan will also be reduced to ashes," he added. He also said, “Our 28 people have been brutally slaughtered. We demand the heads of 280 terrorists in return.”

The BJP leader further criticised Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha for his remarks on the attack, stating that there is an attempt to create a narrative denying the targeting of Hindus. “The problem is that while terrorists come from outside, their supporters and sympathisers continue to roam around within the country,” Adhikari said. He added, “Their first task is to figure out how to trivialise brutality. I pray to God that they never have to stand in front of the barrel of a gun and be asked to recite the Kalma… They are not worthy of correction, repentance, or regret.”
