PM will offer Anjali to Maa Durga this Ashtami in Kolkata, receives multiple invitations
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to travel to New Delhi next week amid the Trinamool Congress’ protest against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, a development that has led to the postponement of the tabling of the state’s interim budget. The vote-on-account will now be presented on February 5.
The schedule of the interim budget session of the 294-member West Bengal Legislative Assembly has been officially revised. The session will now begin on February 3 instead of January 31, with the budget presentation shifted from February 2 to February 5.
The rescheduling comes as Banerjee is expected to be in the national capital during the Parliament session, where she may interact with leaders of other opposition parties. Party leaders say her primary objective would be to take the political battle over the SIR exercise in West Bengal to the national stage.
The SIR process began in the state on November 4 and has since triggered sustained protests by the TMC, which has accused the Election Commission of excluding genuine voters. With the 2026 Assembly elections approaching, political focus has now turned to the vote-on-account budget and whether the chief minister will announce any major welfare measures.
