On the morning before Christmas, Bengal experienced widespread fog, significantly impacting visibility on roads and causing delays in train schedules. The fog-covered state led to restricted speeds for buses and cars, contributing to disruptions in both road and air traffic. Train services have been particularly affected, with significant delays reported due to the reduced visibility caused by the dense fog.
Despite the meteorological forecast indicating a rise in temperature on Christmas Day, the fog persisted on Sunday morning. The minimum temperature recorded was 17 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department attributes the foggy conditions to the formation of a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal, coupled with the influence of western winds. As a result, Bengal is witnessing a temporary decrease in winter conditions.
