Five arrested for attack on Bengal Minister Siddiqullah Chowdhury in Bardhaman
The West Bengal government has extended the deadline for undergraduate admissions in colleges and universities to July 15. Applications will continue to be accepted through the centralized online portal run by the Higher Education Department. A senior official from the department stated that the extension was made on the instructions of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to ensure convenience for students.
As of now, the portal has recorded 18,24,914 applications, and 3,25,342 students have completed their admissions. Among the total applicants, 2,901 students are from other states. The online system was launched two weeks ago to streamline the admission process for undergraduate courses in state-run and state-aided institutions.
To assist students, the department’s chatbot ‘Beena’ has handled 33,267 queries so far. Meanwhile, the Bengal Education Portal and the SSC's ‘Utsashree’ portal were temporarily shut down at 10 AM on Tuesday. These portals are scheduled to remain offline until 11 AM on July 7. According to officials, this move is linked to making category-related updates due to legal complexities concerning OBC classifications.
