Bengal Government transfers 15 top brass IPS and state officers; Amlan Ghosh becomes DC STF, Kolkata

The West Bengal state administration on Wednesday executed a major bureaucratic realignment by ordering the immediate transfer and promotion of 15 senior IPS and West Bengal Police (WBPS) officers. According to the official notification issued by the state secretariat, Nabanna, the strategic shake-up spans key departments from district administrations to intelligence wings, including the Intelligence Branch (IB), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and State Task Force (STF). The directive includes routine transfers, programmatic promotions, and the cancellation of several previously issued deployment orders to accommodate new postings.

Among the prominent changes, former DIG of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Anjan Chakraborty, saw his June transfer order cancelled and has been deployed as the IGP of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). Concurrently, IPS Sumanjit Roy has been appointed as the IGP of IB (Border), while IPS Rashid Munir Khan secures a major promotion, taking charge as the new IGP of Headquarters. Structural changes hit Kolkata Police as well, with former Kolkata STF DC Pradeep Kumar Yadav moving to the 4th Battalion as DC, swapping posts with Amlan Kusum Ghosh, who transitions from Howrah North DC to fill the vacancy as DC STF.

The restructuring further reshaped regional administrative teams across outer police districts. Sambhav Jain, formerly the Additional SP of Krishnanagar, is now the DC Traffic for Kolkata Police after his previous posting as Howrah Central DC was rescinded, while Ranaghat SDPO Savita Gotial has been promoted to Additional SS, CID. At the district level, WBPS officer Shaubhanik Mukherjee takes over as Additional SP of Howrah Rural, Sandeep Sen shifts from Kharagpur to become the Additional SP of Jhargram, and Shyamal Kumar Mandal steps into the role of Zonal Additional SP for the Sundarban Police District.
