A recruitment scam has been reported in Arambagh, where an NGO is accused of duping unemployed youths by offering Group D jobs in government schools in exchange for large sums of money. Victims allege they paid amounts ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹1,00,000 for these positions, which were described as roles for maintaining cleanliness and school premises. Despite joining work, the recruits claim they have not received salaries even after six months.
The recruitment began last year, with the NGO reportedly spreading information about job openings in government schools across Arambagh and nearby areas. The organization, through intermediaries, collected money from job seekers under the pretext of facilitating employment. Following the recruitment, candidates were deployed in various schools within the subdivision. However, after months of work, no payments were made. When questioned, the school authorities clarified that the NGO had taken responsibility for the salaries.
The schools reportedly believed the NGO was operating under a government project and had no direct involvement in financial matters. Efforts by the workers to reach the NGO went unanswered, with its representatives becoming untraceable. The Assistant District School Inspector for Arambagh stated they were unaware of any such recruitment conducted through an NGO. This has raised concerns about how private recruitment was allowed in government institutions and whether proper permissions were obtained.
Victims allege that the NGO misused their trust and collected crores of rupees before vanishing. Police investigations are underway following formal complaints from several victims. The authorities are working to trace the individuals associated with the NGO and determine the scale of the scam. The victims are demanding strict action and recovery of their lost money.
