In the wake of violent clashes near Rabindranagar police station in Maheshtala, South 24 Parganas, the West Bengal police department has ordered a significant reshuffle of senior officers. The decision was formalised late Friday night, aiming to restore public confidence and control over the volatile region.
Inspector in Charge (IC) of Rabindranagar police station, Mukul Mian, has been transferred to Darjeeling. Replacing him is Sujan Kumar Rai, the Circle Inspector currently posted in Ratua, Malda. Alongside this, Maheshtala SDPO Kamruzzaman Molla has been relieved of his post and reassigned as Assistant Commandant in the third battalion of the State Armed Police.
The state also appointed Syed Rezaul Kabir, former IC of Rajarhat police station, as the new SDPO of Maheshtala. These transfers follow Wednesday’s violence in Rabindranagar where locals clashed with police, set a motorcycle on fire, vandalised police vehicles, and injured several officers.
Officials say the reshuffle aims to stabilise law and order in the area while disciplinary reviews continue. Heavy deployment of forces remains in place to prevent further escalation.
