The West Bengal government has extended the deadline for undergraduate admissions through the centralised online portal to August 5 at midnight, following updates to the state’s OBC category list. The portal was launched on July 17 for admission into 460 state-run and aided colleges affiliated with 17 public universities across the state.
The admission process was delayed after the Calcutta High Court put a stay on the state government’s revised OBC list. The Supreme Court removed the stay on July 28, allowing students under the updated OBC categories to proceed with their applications, including those appearing through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE).
Following the apex court’s order, the Higher Education Department enabled the portal to accept updates on students' social category details from July 29. Initially, the deadline for updating these details was set for August 4. Chief Secretary Manoj Pant confirmed on Monday night that the final date to submit or update social category information has now been extended to August 5, 11:59 PM.
Pant stated that students who fail to update their social category status within the deadline will be marked as defaulters, and no corrections will be accepted after that. The results of the state’s Higher Secondary Examination were announced on May 7, which are being used as the qualifying basis for this year’s UG admission cycle.
