Bengal witnesses decline in voter turnout compared to 2019 Lok Sabha elections

Despite being among the constituencies with the highest voter turnout in the country during the recent Lok Sabha elections, Bengal observed a notable decline in voter participation compared to the 2019 polls. Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri, three prominent seats in the state, all experienced a decrease in the percentage of votes cast.

In Cooch Behar, the voting percentage dropped by 1.91%, from 84.08% in 2019 to 82.17% in 2024. Similarly, Alipurduar witnessed a decline of 4.03%, with the voter turnout falling from 83.79% to 79.76% over the same period. Additionally, Jalpaiguri saw a reduction of 2.85%, as the voter turnout decreased from 86.51% in 2019 to 83.66% in 2024.
