Reconstruction of crime scene in Kasba as probe intensifies in Kolkata college student rape case
A woman in Bengaluru has been booked for allegedly killing her pet dog as part of a suspected occult ritual. The incident took place in the Mahadevpura area and was discovered after residents of the apartment complex reported a foul smell coming from her flat.
The woman, identified as Triparna Payak and originally from West Bengal, is accused of strangling her pet Labrador and inflicting a deep neck wound. She reportedly wrapped the dog’s body in a cloth, sealed all the doors and windows, locked the house, and fled the premises.
Following complaints from neighbours, officials from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) broke into the apartment and found the dog’s decomposed body. Two other dogs were found alive but tied to the wall. The condition of the flat and presence of religious items prompted officials to suspect a ritualistic act.
BBMP veterinary officer Dr. Rudresh Kumar filed the complaint in the case. He confirmed that the rescued dogs were shifted to a BBMP-run hospital for treatment. A post-mortem report revealed that the Labrador had died approximately four days before it was found.
Police at the Mahadevpura Police Station have registered a case against Triparna Payak under sections related to animal cruelty. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the killing.
