Pensioners in Bhatarpara have launched a protest in front of the Bhatarpara Municipality President’s residence, demanding the release of their pensions that have been pending for the last three months. The protestors, many of whom are elderly and disabled, claim that the municipality has failed to provide regular monthly pension payments. This delay has left them struggling to manage basic living and medical expenses.
The pensioners argue that the continued delays in disbursement are severely affecting their financial stability. "We are unable to bear our medical costs, and many of us are dependent on the pension for survival," one protestor said. The pensioners emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that without their pensions, they are unable to meet even basic healthcare needs.
Debjyoti Ghosh, the Deputy Mayor of Bhatarpara Municipality, confirmed that the pensioners have not received their dues for the past three months. While he did not provide a clear timeline for when the payments would be made, he acknowledged that the pensioners' demands were justified. The protestors have warned that if any pensioner dies due to financial hardship, the municipal administration would be held responsible.
