Reliance Jute Mill in Bhatpara resumed operations on Sunday morning, 72 hours after it was abruptly shut down by the management. The closure, announced through a notice last Saturday, left around 2,500 workers temporarily unemployed. The sudden halt led to concerns among workers and prompted immediate political and administrative attention.
Jagatdal MLA Somnath Shyam intervened soon after the shutdown and initiated direct communication with the mill authorities. Over two days, he held several rounds of meetings with the management, urging them to resume operations at the earliest. Following the talks, the decision was made to reopen the mill.
The mill became operational again on Sunday. MLA Somnath Shyam expressed satisfaction with the outcome and said the reopening was achieved through continuous dialogue. Workers returned to duty the same morning, and the production process resumed under normal conditions.
