Bhiwani murders: Rajasthan cops detain 6, CM Ashok Gehlot calls for strict action

Rajasthan police have arrested six people in connection with the death of two men whose skeletal remains were found in a charred vehicle in Haryana's Bhiwani on Thursday. Family members of the deceased men alleged that the two were abducted from their village in Rajasthan's Bharatpur by cow vigilantes associated with the Bajrang Dal.

Police said one of the victims was involved in cow smuggling cases and investigations are on to find out if it was a case of cow vigilantism. "Half a dozen people have been detained and are being interrogated. Those named in the FIR are associated with the Bajrang Dal but whether they were involved in the crime or not is yet to be ascertained," Inspector General of Police, Bharatpur range, Gaurav Srivastava said.

An FIR was lodged at the Gopalgarh police station in Rajasthan against five people — Anil, Shrikant, Rinku Saini, Lokesh Singla and Mohit alias Monu Manesar — based on a complaint lodged by the family members of the victims. Teams have been formed to nab the accused, who have been booked under sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 365 (kidnapping), 367 (grievously injured after kidnapping) and 368 (improper detention in prison) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Condemning the gruesome incident, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the police have been directed to take strict action in the matter.

Nasser (25) and Junaid alias Juna (35), both residents of Ghatmeeka village in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district, were allegedly abducted on Wednesday and their bodies were found in a charred Bolero at Lohar in Bhiwani on Thursday morning. Police said Junaid had a criminal record of cattle smuggling. Five cases were registered against him at different police stations. After post-mortem, the bodies of the two deceased men were handed over to their relatives in Ghatmeeka village. The village panchayat said it has been decided that the last rites of Nasser and Junaid will be performed.
