The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation has submitted a sensational report to the Calcutta High Court, identifying 14 multi-storey buildings in Ward No. 12 constructed without any valid permits. These structures, ranging from three to six storeys, reportedly house car showrooms, hotels, and branches of a famous biryani chain.
The report follows a Public Interest Litigation alleging that these buildings were illegally erected by filling up protected wetlands in Atghara Mouza. The division bench, led by Chief Justice Sujoy Pal, has directed the Land and Land Revenue Department to clarify the official status of these plots.
The BLRO must now determine if the lands were originally registered as "Vastu" (habitable) or "Sali/Doba" (wetlands). This judicial scrutiny aligns with the state government's recent crackdown on illegal structures following a major fire incident in Tapasya on Wednesday.
