Bihar Govt to withdraw all cases against NEET exam protesters amid opposition, CJP pressure

In a major relief for student demonstrators, the Bihar government led by Samrat Choudhary announced that it will not take any punitive or retaliatory legal action against individuals involved in the NEET paper leak protests across the state. According to an official press release issued by the Home Department on July 27, 2026, the relief applies to all individuals who participated in the demonstrations anywhere in Bihar prior to 6 PM on July 26, 2026.

The state administration confirmed that it will immediately initiate the formal legal process to withdraw all existing First Information Reports (FIRs), criminal complaints, and show-cause notices filed against the protesters. Furthermore, authorities have been directed to immediately release all individuals currently arrested or detained in connection with the NEET exam reform demonstrations registered before the specified cutoff time.

The decision comes following widespread public unrest and state-wide agitation, including the 'Bihar Bandh' called over alleged paper leak irregularities and demands for examination reforms. Additionally, opposition parties and the Cockroach Janata Party have issued stern warnings of nationwide protests if action against students continues. Reassuring the student community, the government emphasized that no future legal action, whether direct or indirect, will be taken against those involved in the protests before the cutoff deadline.
