A condemned prisoner in Bihar's Gopalganj Divisional Jail swallowed a mobile phone to avoid being caught during the inspection. He soon had to be admitted to Sadar Hospital due to severe pain, and doctors found the phone in his stomach during examination.
Dr Salam Siddiqui, stationed at Sadar Hospital's emergency department, said that an inmate from Bihar's Gopalganj Divisional Jail, Kaishar Ali, was admitted due to stomach pain on Saturday evening. "They took an X-ray of his stomach. Foreign particles were clearly visible during the examination. It needs to be thoroughly investigated," he said.
Inmate Kaishar Ali said he swallowed a mobile phone for fear of being caught by a guard, but immediately suffered severe stomach pains. Police said the jail authorities have admitted the inmate to Sadar Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Ali has been imprisoned for the past three years. Police said he was a resident of a nearby village and the son of Babujan Mian. He was arrested on 17 January 2020 by city police station with slap (narcotic substance) near Hajiapur village.
