Nawada police seized 216 liters of foreign liquor from a Kolkata-Nawada bus at Rajauli check post amid Bihar’s ongoing crackdown on illegal liquor trade. The Excise Department arrested four individuals, including one alleged liquor smuggler and three bus staff, and seized the vehicle. The consignment, worth approximately ₹3 lakh, was intended for distribution in Nawada district.
According to officials, the raid was conducted on a confidential tip-off. The team, led by Sub-Inspector Rajesh Patel, intercepted the bus and conducted a thorough inspection. Authorities discovered 24 cartons of Royal Stag Premium Grain Whisky, concealed inside sacks on the bus roof. The confiscated liquor included 252 bottles of 750 ml and 72 bottles of 375 ml, totaling 324 bottles.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment was loaded from Babu Ghat in Kolkata. The arrested individuals, all from Nawada district, are under interrogation to trace the smuggling network. The Excise Department has launched further inquiries to identify potential links to organized liquor distribution channels operating across Bihar.
Officials stated that this seizure comes as part of heightened interstate border checks aimed at curbing illegal liquor transport. Law enforcement agencies have increased surveillance at key transit points like Rajauli check post, which connects Bihar and Jharkhand. The department has warned of more stringent actions against violators under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act.
Authorities have confirmed that the bus remains in police custody, and further legal proceedings are underway. The arrested individuals are expected to be produced before the court after medical examinations at Rajauli Sub-Divisional Hospital. Officials continue to monitor smuggling routes and conduct frequent inspections to prevent further violations of Bihar’s liquor ban.
